Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) have dismissed claims by Digital Strategist Dennis Itumbi that he was the target of the Friday, August 12, 2021 assassination attempt.
The officers who visited the scene of crime as was alleged by Itumbi stated that they did not recover any spent cartridge.
The report from the officers revealed that the digital strategist’s vehicle had slight damages on the bumper. They towed the vehicle to the police station as investigations continue.
The former State House Director of Digital Communication told the police that he was driving along the Garden Estate Mountain Mall Road to pick dinner at a local restaurant when his car was blocked by an unidentified vehicle.
Itumbi who is a close ally of the Deputy President William Ruto informed the police officers that he became suspicious and intentionally hit the vehicle that was blocking the way in order to flee the scene.
“As he was trying to get an escape route, he heard gunshots being fired towards his motor vehicle. He managed to speed off unhurt. He later parked his vehicle at Rubis Petrol Station. He informed his family members who later informed the police,” the police report read in part.
“His motor vehicle was slightly damaged on the front bumper. At the scene, no cartridge was recovered. The damaged vehicle was towed to the station for further investigation,” the report further read.
However, a police officer privy to the incident dimissed the report that Itumbi survived an assassination attempt.
He stated that Itumbi was arrested by the police at the Garden Estate area in Kasarani.
“I do not have the exact details of the case All I know is they tracked and apprehended him. He attempted to evade arrest, but the detectives pinned him down,” the source stated.
