President Uhuru Kenyatta on Thursday visisted Dean Atisa, an artisan based in Nairobi’s Umoja Area to shop for school furniture, as government readies to open schools. Achisa is among the thousands of Kenyans selected to craft desks, lockers, and chairs for public primary and secondary schools from September.
President Kenyatta was accompanied by Interior CS Fred Matiangi, PS Karanja Kibicho and senior officials from the Ministry of Education.
In his bid to promote his manufacturing agenda as well as local artisans, Kenyatta has earmarked KES 1.9B for this project.
The Head of State also believes this will open opportunities for local artisans and a number of Kenyan youth depending on the Jua Kali sector.
