PHOTOS: Jacob Juma sued DP Ruto over Ruai Land before he was murdered in cold blood

The late business mogul and millionaire Jacob Juma had taken DP Ruto to court over the repossessed Ruai sewerage land. Juma, a harsh critic of DP William Ruto would later be murdered in cold blood.

In June 2015, the High Court on Friday summoned five officers in the Ministry of Lands and the County Government of Nairobi to explain the circumstances surrounding the transfer of 665ha of land in Ruai to a private developer.

Justice John Mutungi directed that the Acting Chief Lands Registrar, the Settlement Fund Trustee, Director of Survey Nairobi county, the Secretary of Land Commission and the Chief Lands Officer should appear before him on July 17.

The five were summoned to respond to the claim by a businessman Jacob Juma, that the land was illegally transferred to Renton Limited in 1996 by the Nairobi City Council less than an hour after it was granted the lease by the Ministry of Lands to develop a sewer treatment plant.

A period of time, Juma contends, that was too short to have met the special conditions for such a lease transfer.

“The suit land was registered in favour of NCC on April 12, 1996 at 0930 and transferred to Renton Limited at 1025 same day in a manner that was manifest with corruption, fraud and breach of Constitution,” Juma stated in his petition.

The five lands officers are to therefore file a comprehensive report within a period of seven days giving details on how the parcel of land was transferred to Renton.

The court, he prayed, should seek to establish if Sh18,200,000 paid by Renton in stamp duty was a bribe.

Juma wanted the court to issue an injunction barring Renton from using the parcel of land in Ruai until the legality of the transfer is ascertained.
