Deputy President William Ruto has been caught being insincere with regards to his attacks on the Mt Kenya Foundation over its attempts to get involved in next year’s presidential elections.
The businessmen from Central Kenya have been very keen on having a say on who succeeds President Uhuru Kenyatta and have even hosted some of the aspirants to tell them what they will do for Mt Kenya.
But the DP has been unhappy with the meetings, terming them ‘presidential interviews’ being held by a small group of people trying to impose leaders on Kenyans in pursuit of their own interests.
This has caught the attention of ODM Director of Communications Philip Etale, who wonders how the DP can find fault in the same thing he rode on to secure the seat he currently holds s few years back.
In a tweet, he reminds Kenyans how the same group of people held a fundraiser and raised some of the money Ruto and President Uhuru Kenyatta used in their campaigns, wondering what has now changed
“Imagine William castigating the Mt. Kenya Foundation officials for hosting the ENIGMA for a luncheon at an hotel and forgets that he was hosted by the same people in 2017 and raised hundreds of millions for their campaign in a record 2 hours. Just imagine,” he said on Tuesday.
Among the possible endorsees of the foundation is ODM leader Raila Odinga, the others being the OKA chiefs; Moses Wetangula, Musalia Mudavadi, Kalonzo Musyoka and Gideon Moi.
The tycoons have said that their main goal is to see to it that the power transition is peaceful, and to support a leader who they are sure will protect the interests of Mt Kenya and their businesses.
But Ruto has been unhappy with their actions and has also been mocking fellow presidential aspirants who have been hosted by the group, for attending interviews in hotels rather than going to the people.
He has said that personally, he will not attend the said interviews and will proceed with why he has bee doing, directly asking Kenyans for their backing.
“Unlike other presidential candidates, I will not go for an interview in Nairobi hotels. I will be interviewed by the common wananchi,” he said in Isiolo on Sunday.
