After kicking off the signature collection exercise for the BBI petition on Wednesday, it is now clear President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga are not keen on including any dissenting voices in the BBI process. However, aware of impending humiliation, Deputy President William Ruto is reluctant to form a NO team, despite intense pressure from his allies led by former Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama, Kipchumba Murkomen, and Uasin Governor Jackson Mandago lobbying for a NO team to be unveiled as soon as possible.
According to them, they believe a contested plebiscite will boost their political fortunes especially for Kipchumba Murkomen who want to become the next Elgeyo Marakwet Governor in 2022. However, the DP is skeptical and unsure how his boss, President Uhuru Kenyatta would react if he openly led the NO batallion.
Aware of a possible humiliation and backlash, Ruto is now assembling former IEBC Commissioner Roselyne Akombe, NARCK Kenya leader Martha Karua, Economist Dr. David Ndii, Makueni boss Kivutha Kibwana and all vocal activists, under a movement called Kenya Liberation Movement (KLM) to be led by Akombe , Karua and Kibwana in opposing the BBI, attacking ODM Party and presenting themselves as the alternative movement.
KLM was conceived by Akombe and Governor Kibwana who has become a strong supporter of DP Ruto’s 2022 bid. Two weeks ago, DP Ruto gave the Governor one of his choppers, to use in spreading the anti-BBI gospel in the Ukambani region. On Sunday 15th this month, Governor Kibwana landed in his county in the helicopter registration number 5Y DSN which belongs to the DP. Ruto.
Kibwana was accompanied by former Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama who has been instrumental in persuading him to join the Ruto 2022.
