OKA Principals Reiterate That They Will Not Cede Ground For Raila Despite Pressure From Uhuru

The OKA coalition has moved to block possibilities of any of its co-principals jumping ship before next year’s elections upon realizing that this is possible.

This comes amid reports that some members are secretly working with ODM boss Raila Odinga and could with time abandon the team to join him.

As a result, the OKA technical committee is drafting a well detailed agreement that will bar the principals from leaving the coalition until after the elections.

The agreement dictates that no principal, including Cyrus Jirongo, the new entrant, is to betray the alliance by backing an outsider for the presidency.

This was confirmed by Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa, who told The Star that everything is ready and what remains is for the principals to sign the document.

“The agreement is ready and it legally commits our principals to work together under Oka with the view of forming the next government,” he told the paper.

The attempts to prevent betrayal in the alliance comes amid reports of pressure on the team to back ODM boss Raila Odinga for the top seat.

Uhuru, according to reports, has in his meetings with the team, cautioned them of a loss to his deputy William Ruto if they don’t join hands with Raila.

But they have reportedly rejected his proposal, with ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi, Moses Wetangula of Ford Kenya and Wiper’s Kalonzo Musyoka ruling out chances of reuniting with Raila over alleged betrayal.

They have been of the idea that he proves himself by actually dropping his bid, which has the backing of the Head of State and supports them.

“My thinking is that Uhuru should go home with Raila. If you look at the ages of all the others who want to contest for the presidency, Raila is way ahead of us,” he said in an interview on Wednesday.

Among the principals suspected to be working with Raila is KANU leader Gideon Moi, who is seen as having some great liking for the ex-Prime Minister.
