One Kenya Alliance principals,Musalia Mudavadi, Kalonzo Musyoka, Moses Wetangula and Gideon Moi have dismissed reports that they had agreed to support ODM leader Raila Odinga’s candidature in the next year presidential elections.
This is after a section of the media had reported that OKA principles had been convinced to back Raila in the battle for the Country’s top job after having a decisive talk with the president on Wednesday.
In a statement on Thursday,The Oka principals said that during their meeting with president Uhuru Kenyatta, nothing was discussed on supporting anyone for the top seat but claimed it was a consultative meeting deliberately on national matters, in particular the COVID-19 crisis.
“We hereby state categorically that our visit to state house aren’t summons to browbeat us into supporting one candidate or the other, as the distorted narrative suggest,”
“Indeed, yesterday’s meeting was one such conference where a new COVID-19 surge and containment measures were the subject of extensive discussion. No one asked or even suggested that we support anyone for anything,” the principal added.
The principals further called for accurate reporting, castigating the media and in particular Daily Nation as it ran a headline on its front page that read “Uhuru corner OKA chief to back Raila”
“Kenyans deserve correct, factual, verifiable, attributable, and balanced reporting of events and not fiction about manufactured events that didn’t take place; sanitized through the the veneer of creative realities, deceptive facts, opaque shadow sources and twisted logic. We call upon news media and especially the print media to remain focused on reporting facts as they are and not what their wishes are,” they pointed out.
