Hours after former Nairobi County governor Mike Sonko spilled the beans revealing the dirty work they took part in during the 2017 general elections implicating the Raila Odinga led ODM party in electoral skirmishes, the party has talked.
Sonko was referring to earlier accusations on Deputy President William Ruto and his allies for fueling the hustler versus dynasty war with their supporters allegedly burning cars in the process.
The former governor detailed out how they did the dirty work with interior CS Karanja Kibicho buying second cars and burning them down while in printed ODM T-shirts, accusing the Raila led party, in the process.
“We are now seeing the Deep State burning vehicles claiming it is the hustlers. I want to reveal here that in 2017, I and Kibicho together with the System printed ODM t-shirts, bought second-hand cars then burnt them in Ngong road so as to be seen it was the ODM supporters that had burned them,” said Sonko.
ODM through the party secretary-general Edwin Sifuna, now wants a full and detailed investigation into the matter, with the parties involved then and the reason behind it.
“The recent confession by former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko that he participated in stage managing violence and destruction of property that he and his co-conspirators then pinned on ODM, is welcomed but its a little too late,” the statement read in part.
“ODM demands a full inquiry into the matter so as to establish the motives and extent of these mafia-like covert criminals acts as well as the persons and institutions involved,” it continued.
His utterances come barely days after making an impromptu visit to Odinga’s Capitol Hill office in Nairobi wanting to meet the former premier.
His attempt however did not see the light of the day since he was not an agenda in Odinga’s itinerary after he could not corroborate his being at the office.
He managed to go past the gate but was later barred from seeing Mr. Odinga by the security officers having who were manning the door.
