Odinga tasks former MP Jakoyo Midiwo to lead signature collection, BBI sensitization in Luo Nyanza

ODM leader Raila Odinga has tasked former Gem MP Jakoyo Midiwo to lead the BBI signature collection exercise in Luo Nyanza, as well as sensitization rallies to ensure Kenyans living in the Luo Nyanza region have the right information on the report as the country begins the journey to a plebiscite. The former Gem MP who has returned to the ODM Party after decamping in 2017 will be assisted by Bob Madanji, who is the Director of Protocol at the Kisumu county government.

On Sunday,  Raila Odinga met governors from Nyanza and Western regions at the Ciala Resort in Kisumu where he rallied them to support the document and ruled out any plans to make new amendments on it. It was during this meeting that Jakoyo Midiwo was given this new responsibility. The Nyanza region is one of the places regarded as critical in ensuring the BBI report is passed.

Meanwhile, the Central Organization of Trade Union (COTU) Secretary General Francis Atwoli over the weekend hosted Hon. Junet Mohammed, Hon. Emmanuel Wangwe, Hon. Gideon Moi, Rt Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga, Hon. David Murathe and Hon. James Orengo at his IIdamat home in Kajiado County.

The leaders met at a closed-door meeting to discuss the way forward on how to tackle the BBI issues after the process has been kick-started. This is after the pro-BBI voices made it clear that the BBI had hit the road running and there was no room for anyone who was not on board already. This is after the section of leaders had failed to give the church clergy a listening ear by integrating their thoughts and suggestions in the document.

Led by former Prime Minister and ODM leader Raila Odinga, the leaders said that there was nothing that was going to be added to the document, adding that everyone should just prepare themselves to go to the ballot. The AU special envoy added that they gave a two-year window period which everyone was aware of to present their views for integration, hence nothing more to be added now.
