Hours after the party’s National Executive Committee announced severing ties with the National Super Alliance coalition, Wiper Democratic Movement welcomes a new party Member.
The Kalonzo Musyoka-led party officially ended its engagement with the NASA coalition in a bid to officially solidify it Membership with One Kenya Alliance ahead of the 2022 general elections.
Speaking during a presser after the meeting that sealed the deal with Orange Democratic Movement leader, Kalonzo also welcomed NASA Chief Executive Officer Norman Magaya to the Wiper party, noting he will be working closely with him.
“Norman is a very famous name. He said before they wind up NASA, they might wind him up as well. Norman thank you so much for joining Wiper. He is going to work very closely with the party leader going forward,” he said.
During the lengthy meeting the former prime minister is reported to have agreed to share the coalition’s billions with other principals marking the end of their engagement.
“We have had a lengthy discussion this evening as Wiper party which has culminated into our decision to ditch Nasa and welcome a new formidable coalition which in my view will be spearheaded by the One Kenya Alliance. We are sure of the direction we want to take and we are determined to take that decision,” Kalonzo said.
The ODM party leader further noted that the decision to share the funds will further tone down the unhealthy exchanges between the other NASA principals against ODM.
“The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) is appreciative of the constructive consultations that have taken place among the leaders of our respective parties.”
“Consequently thereto, our party has deliberated internally and resolved that, without prejudice, we share with our coalition partners ODM’s share of the political parties funds attributed to parliamentary (and excluding presidential, gubernatorial, and county assemblies) votes for the financial years 2017/18,2018/19 and 2019/20,” Raila stated.
Kalonzo further confirmed its engagement with the ruling Jubilee party ahead of the 2022, as he welcome’s Raila Odinga into the One Kenya Alliance adding that all was not meant to weaken the Raila-led party.
“Wiper party is still in cooperation with the Jubilee party…It should not be a surprise in future to see One Kenya Alliance working with the Jubilee party. We, therefore, welcome our ODM brothers to OKA. We are not killing Nasa and ODM at the same time,” Kalonzo added.
