Nominated Senator Millicent Omanga has slammed COTU Secretary General Francis for what she termed as his apparent obsession with postponing the 2022 general elections.
According to the Senator, Atwoli’s assertions that the 2022 polls should be postponed are hinged on the fate of the Building Bridges Initiative.
“Atwoli is obsessed with the desire to postpone the 2022 elections. Of course, this is in retaliation to the sudden death of BBI whose burial is on August 20, at the CoA. Whoever is close to him, please tell him in a language he understands that 09.08.2022 is the date, ” Senator Omanga tweeted.
Senator Omanga was responding to an earlier interview on NTV on Monday, 05 July 2021 in which he gave his take on postponing the 2022 elections and the BBI whose fate now lies in the hands of a seven-judge bench.
“The constitution is a guiding political document that guides Kenyans but there are other things which can happen which are beyond this constitution, ” Atwoli said.
In the interview, Atwoli labelled politicians claiming the election could not be postponed as ‘stupid’, noting tha nothing is impossible.
“They are people who don’t know what they are talking about. They think I am afraid of Kenya elections or the candidate I am favouring may not win, but it’s not that,” added the COTU boss.
The COTU boss finished the interview stating that “BBI will have to go through”.
Atwoli had earlier on made similar remarks on June 17th during a press conference when he stated that “If there is no BBI, we will postpone elections until we get BBI”.
