Things between Kenya and Uganda have escalated pretty quick and now risk spiraling out of control. Of course, it’s nowhere near the spat Kenya has with Somalia, or the one Uganda has with Rwanda. Ours is simply just a playful tiff, although it started on a seemingly serious note. A while back, the Deputy President was blocked from flying to Uganda. This was followed by some sibling rivalry on the track in Tokyo which was worsened by Mike Okinyi’s misreporting that annoyed Ugandans, and now, Nollywood superstar Richard Mofe-Damijo is likely to mess it up even more after confusing a Ugandan Megastar, considered a national treasure by her country, for a Kenyan.
Mofe-Damijo was appearing on Citizen TV’s Jeff Koinange Live show hosted by Jeff Koinange when he revealed that for the longest time, he thought popular comedienne Anne Kansiime was Kenyan. He said that he noticed her short hilarious skits online and immediately concluded that she’s Kenyan, only to find out much later that she is actually Ugandan.
The Nigerian veteran actor disclosed that he has been a professional actor for 37 years, during the interview. Damijo who admitted that he was happy to be in Kenya and Nairobi, also disclosed that it was the first time he had been in the country properly, and all the other times, he has been in transit to somewhere else and only used the country to exchange flights
He lauded Kenyans for the contribution they were making in African Cinema, and spoke of a certain fellow called Ishmael, who is apparently a cinematographer in Nollywood doing quite well.
Mofe-Damijo who is also a trained lawyer shocked Jeff by revealing that he not only studied Law, but is also a practicing lawyer. Going further, he shared that in addition to being a practicing lawyer, as a matter of fact, also actually earns from the profession.
At the end of the interview, it emerged that Jeff and the actor have known each other from the 80s.
