A story that involves two men and evokes memories of a third is one that carries ethnic undertones in this case. Nick Mwendwa and Jacob Ghost Mulee are two men from Ukambani whose story is slowly but gradually and surely taking the shape and form of a similar story by a fellow Kamba man. A couple of months ago, Machakos governor Dr. Alfred Mutua purported to teach the country a lesson in civility and fine manners. Throwing a birthday party and inviting his recently divorced wife, he sought to show the rest of us that a divorce doesn’t have to be, in the famous words of senator Wetangula, loud, noisy and messy. However, just days later, embarrassing details surrounding the governor’s troubled marriage began emerging, and a Hip-hop artiste even claimed he had received death threats. Likewise, Ghost’s departure from Harambee Stars tried to be passed off as a mutual parting of agreeable partners. However, soon after, Ghost began taking veiled shots at FKF on his Radio show. Now, it appears to be headed for a blown out clash after Nick’s latest outburst.
While speaking to NTV during a virtual interview, the Football Kenya Federation president Nick Mwendwa sought to downplay the criticisms that have been levelled at him, his federation and the national team.
He said that much shouldn’t be emphasised on coach Firat’s performance so far since he is coach but on an interim basis. He then said that looking back on the decisions he had been making so far in relation to the technical bench, he kept employing coaches for the long term and this kept ending up costing the federation.
”After my latest mistake, I decided that the next coach I hire will be on short term basis so that we can gauge him from there onwards”
He went on to argue that apart from having ample time and opportunity for proper appraisal, coaches employed on a tentative plan didn’t come with the complications of breach of contract and court cases that are common with contractual coaches.
Coaches Bobby Williamson and Sebastian Migne both claimed breach of contract and demanded huge sums of monies following their departures from the technical bench of the national team.
