New twist as Sonko visits DCI headquarters

A stand-off is looming at the DCI headquarters today as the former Nairobi governor is expected to honor his summons following his defaming utterances on interior PS Karanja Kibicho.

The former County chief is expected to appear at the DCI headquarters along Nairobi’s Kiambu road to record a statement following his damning allegations on the PS.

Sonko was to appear at the headquarters on Wednesday at 8 am, but requested to be pushed to today since had a court date.

This comes as word emerges that he might decline to record a statement on the summons since there is a court order barring him from vilifying Kibicho in any way over land-grabbing claims.

The PS through his lawyer Fred Ngatia had filed a case saying the false utterances by Sonko have damaged his reputation, prompting High court judge Msagha Mbogholi to issue the order.

Sonko had confirmed he would be available at the DCI headquarters but declined to comment on whether he would record a statement on the same.

His claims were refuted by the detectives who argued that the court order is not in any way connected with the current case, and what they intend to investigate.

This is after the former County chief was summoned by the detectives to record a statement after interior PS Karanja Kibicho had done the same earlier last week.

The interior PS had complained of wrong accusations by Sonko at a rally in Dagoretti Sub County with the intention to assassinate his character.

During the rally, Sonko alleged that he together with interior PS Karanja Kibicho, and other government officials organized and executed electoral skirmishes during the 2017 general elections, and planting the same on the ODM party.

He is therefore wanted for undermining the authority of a public officer contrary to the Penal Code, disobedience to law, and incitement to violence.

“I have reasons to believe that you, Mike Sonko Mbuvi Gideon Kioko, has some information that can assist me in my investigations,” reads the summons issued by the head of investigations John Kariuki.
