New twist as DP Ruto’s team issues a new statement on leading “NO” campaigns against the BBI report

In the wake of a looming referendum on the recently-launched Building Bridges Initiative, Deputy President William Ruto and his Tanga Tang brigade have come out speaking on their stand on the document., sending jitters across the political divide.

Speaking yesterday at his Nairobi Karen home, the DP showed all indications against leading a No campaign against the BBI at the referendum.

Citing from grass to grace journey, Ruto stated that he wants to concentrate on his hustler movement of empowering the youth and women group in their small and medium enterprises and his 2022 agenda.

Calling for a consensus through dialogue, the DP added that they are not in the mood for a divided nation at this crucial time ahead of the general elections.

“It is now becoming clear to us that anybody with an alternative view that can improve the document is now being told to go to the ‘No’ side. Why do you want to force people to go to ‘No’ when we can all be united through consensus and building one united country?” Asked DP Ruto.

His allies are belting the same tune amid claims that mobilizing funds for or leading a No campaign at the referendum will dim his 2022 focus on the statehouse bid.

Led by his de-facto spokesman and Soy Member of Parliament, the leaders stated that the DP’s team will not lead a No campaign, adding that they don’t want a divided Nation towards the general elections.

“We do not want a divided nation when we are going towards an election… issues we have raised are not our personal views, but those of people we represent. Secondly, we cannot say we have money for a referendum but no funds to cater for Kenyans during this pandemic,” said the Soy MP.

His Kimilili counterpart Didmus Barasa added that those pushing the Tanga Tanga faction to a YES, NO options, are maliciously geared towards creating an anti-Ruto euphoria ahead of the 2022 general elections.

Bomet Senator Cleophas Lang’at also stated that the DP’s opponents are staging a mock election to gauge his support and influence ahead of the forthcoming elections.
