The 2022 succession politics is giving senior politicians and their families sleepless nights. A scheme to succeed President Uhuru has got into the relationship between the Kenyattas and the Mois, two powerful families which have controlled country’s politics for decades.
Whereas majority of members of the two families are rallying behind Raila Odinga whom they describe as experienced and ripe for the position of president, Nana Gecaga, who is also President Uhuru’s cousin and the KICC CEO is reportedly rooting for DP Ruto.
The Kenyatta family is firmly behind Baringo Senator Gideon Moi in his bid to wrestle the Rift Valley from DP William Ruto and Nana’s move to side with the DP could be interpreted to mean the Kenyattas are not speaking in one voice in regards to 2022 succession politics.
In May this year, DP Ruto’s allies trained their guns on Nana Gecaga after being ousted from their positions in both the National Assembly and the Senate. The MPs claimed a company associated with Ms Gecaga was illegally awarded multimillion tender to supply Jubilee Party with campaign merchandize in 2017, and it mounted to conflict of interest.
The company, Bora Ubora Limited, was reportedly paid Ksh361 million by the ruling party after supplying branded T-shirts as well as caps and other materials. The Tanga Tanga MPs also fingered Jomo Gechaga and Selina Pratt.
