Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen is a sworn Raila Odinga critic, and rarely has anything positive to say about him. When, a couple of years ago, photos surfaced of him as a young university student, struggling to get a photo-opp with Raila and squeezing himself to be photographed next to the Orange Democratic Movement party leader, he downplayed the incident by launching more scathing insults at the former Prime Minister. However, yesterday evening, Senator Kipchumba Murkomen did something quite unexpected when he started narrating, blow by blow, a plot that had been hatched to get rid of the DP William Ruto through impeachment, and how, it had been none other than Raila Odinga, whose opposition to the plan caused it to fail.
Murkomen was speaking during an appearance on Citizen TV’s Jeff Koinange Live show, which was hosted by Jeff Koinange.
In the interview, Murkomen claimed that Uhuru Kenyatta’s scathing attack on his deputy early this week was nothing but only just the latest in a string of efforts that have been carried out to try and bring down the deputy president.
He said that it was a matter of fact, the only reason William Ruto was still in office is because the constitution protects him, but otherwise, the president would have gotten rid of him long ago.
He then went ahead to disclose that a while back, a plan to initiate impeachment proceedings against the deputy president had been prepared, and not only that, but was in fact, already at an advanced stage. However, he claimed that what caused the whole thing to flop was the choice of candidate to replace Ruto. While former Prime Minister Raila Odinga had assumed that the person to take over the Deputy President post was automatically going to be someone allied to him, and possibly his nominee, president Uhuru had something else in mind, and favoured a replacement that wasn’t necessarily a Raila loyalist.
When this standoff resulted in a stalemate, Raila Odinga refused to support a Ruto impeachment, and this saved Ruto’s skin.
