Murkomen; despite our first term failures, our followers still voted for us

Elgeyo Marakwet senator Kipchumba Murkomen had quite an interesting and impressive explanation to get himself out of a conundrum that he had gotten himself in. He had just been pressured into admitting that Jubilee indeed faced some problems in its first term, and these problems weren’t just concentrated in the second term, and specifically after the handshake.

Now that they were both in agreement that Jubilee had challenges right from the moment they began their administration, the killer punch question was thrust at him. Why then is it easy for you to dismiss Jubilee’s leadership as a failure now, yet when faced with the same challenges, you were reluctant to do so then?

This was during a live interview on Citizen TV’s NewsNight, a late night political show which was being hosted by Waihiga Mwaura. Kipchumba Murkomen was appearing virtually alongside his opposite guest, Jubilee vice-chairman David Murathe who was as well also linking in virtually. Kipchumba Murkomen who is a practicing lawyer appeared to have gotten himself in a fix that was going to be quite tricky to talk his way out of, but as is often the case with the good lawyer, he came up with an intriguing response.

According to Murkomen, Jubilee’s first term failures, or whatever name that could be given to the challenges they were facing, had been forgiven, or deemed acceptable by the most important people in a democracy, namely, the electorate, by virtue of the mere fact that despite their challenges, their followers still trusted them enough to give them a second term.

Interestingly however, Murkomen has always dismissed president Uhuru as a failed president, yet his unusual principal of redemption through reelection doesn’t seem to apply in this case.

If it were to be kept honest to his school of thought, then it should stand to reason that at best Uhuru isn’t a failed president, and at worst, his failure is just halfway.
