Murang’a Governor Mwangi Wa Iria has maintained that he will vie for presidency in 2022 General election in a bid to succeed president Uhuru Kenyatta.
The Murang’a Governor kicked off his presidential bid on Wednesday, August 11, 2021 by launching branded vehicles that he intends to use for his 2022 Presidential campaigns.
In his statement during the branding of his campaign trail vehicles, Governor Wa Iria insisted that nothing will prevent him from running for the top seat.
“There is nothing that will bar me from going for this seat and even if I fail the first time, I will keep trying my luck,” Wairia stated.
Wa Iria also claimed that there were forces trying to pull him down by urging him to drop his 2022 presidential ambition but he maintained that he will not succumb to such pressure.
The Governor revealed that he would vie for the top seat on “Usawa Kwa Wote” party ticket adding that his party will also field candidates for all elective positions across the country.
He further revealed plans of launching grassroots campaigns in the vote rich Mount Kenya region and other counties in Kenya.
The new development comes at the backdrop of vigorous campaigns by a section of Mt Kenya leaders who have declared their support for Deputy President William Ruto for 2022 presidency.
Speaking on Sunday, August 8 2021, Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria announced that he was backing up Ruto for his 2022 presidential bid. He however, stated that he would not join the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party.
“Everyone should know that my choice of the presidential candidate for the 2022 general elections is the Deputy President,” Kuria stated.
