Mt. Kenya Leaders Reject Petter Kenneth’s Endorsement to Succeed President Kenyatta

President Uhuru Kenyatta’s succession bid takes a fresh twist after it emerged that a group of influential Mount Kenya leaders has rejected the former Gatanga Member of Parliament Peter Kenneth as Uhuru’s successor.

Reports by the Daily Nation indicated that the Mount Kenya powerful leaders convened a meeting at Embu Senator Njeru Ndwiga’s home in Embu and the meeting was graced by high end government officials and several Mount Kenya governors.

Reports further indicated that the meeting was attended Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe, , ICT CS Joe Mucheru, Transport CS James Macharia, Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho, Meru County Governor Kiraitu Murungi,  Nyandarua Governor Francis Kimemia, Nyeri’s Mutahi Kahiga, Embu’s Martin Wambora and Kipipiri MP Amos Kimunya.

It was also reported that leaders who agraced the meeting were not pleased that Peter Kenneth had been endorsed by Murang’a political leaders to succeed the Head of State who is the area’s kingpin.

Murang’a leaders led by Senator Irungu Kang’ata had fronted Peter Kenneth as the next Mount Kenya region’s kingpin in bid to succeed President Kenyatta.

Murang’a leaders also asked the President to appoint Peter Kenneth to his cabinet in the coming reshuffle as he prepares to take over from him when his term end.

Sources privy to what transpired in in the meeting from the meeting revealed that the powerful Mt. Kenya leaders settled on two politicians to replace President Kenyatta as Mount Kenya kingpin,  Nyandarua governor Francis Kimemia and Meru governor Kiraitu Murungi.

The leaders further agreed to consult other leaders from the region before they decide on who between two will replace the president as the next Mount Kenya kingpin.

The powerful group is said to have rejected Peter Kenneth’s endorsement following his past political decisions as previously defied the area kingpin and not being a team player.
