MPs snub Matiang’i and Kibicho’s meeting

Members of Parliament serving in the National Assembly’s Administration and National Security Committee have snubbed a meeting with Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi and his Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho that was scheduled for Friday, April 2, 2021.

The leadership of the Ministry of Interior have expressed their disappointment after Members of Parliament serving in the National Assembly’s Security Committee failed to turn up for their meeting.

The Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho stated that they are disappointed with the decisions by the Members of the Parliament despite all the effort that they had made towards convening the meeting.

“We are disappointed that despite all the effort, the notice that had been given and us responding even if the seven days were not provided, the team would not form a quorum and the meeting had to be called off,” he noted.

The meeting between the leadership of the Interior Ministry and the Parliamentary Committee on Administration and National Security was scheduled to address questions concerning national security issues.

Those who turned up for the meeting include; Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho, CAS Winnie Gichu, Ambassador Dando, and the technical staff.

Kibicho said that they are ready to respond to very important questions from the Members of Parliament on behalf of the Kenyans.

“We have a very elaborate system of answering parliamentary questions, had prepared and were ready. We hope that they will organize themselves better next time so that we are able to satisfy members of parliament who are asking very important questions on behalf of citizens.”

“We are more than ready to respond to the honorable member’s questions and concerns as soon as they invite us again,” Kibicho stated.

This comes days after a similar meeting was canceled over the same reason. CS Matiang’i appeared on March 24, 2021 before the Committee accompanied by other security officials but had to leave after waiting for more than 30 minutes for some members of the committee to join the meeting.

Kitui Central MP Makali Muli accused the leadership of the Interior Ministry for lack of commitment when discussing matters important as questions from MPs.

“The only time PS Karanja Kibicho comes with a full team is when we are discussing the budget. When we are discussing matters as important as questions from MPs they are never there,” Muli stated.
