A bruising battle is imminent in Meru County for the upcoming Kiagu ward by-elections following the clearance of Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria’s candidate, who is set to face off with United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party candidate.
Kuria’s newfound political house Chama Cha Kazi has so far fronted Milton Mwenda Kabobo as their preferred candidate for the seat while DP Ruto linked UDA has cleared Simon Kambi to be the party’s flagbearer.
Taking online on his official Facebook page, the Tanga Tanga lawmaker could not hide his excitement after the Kenyan poll body IEBC cleared the party’s first ever candidate for the ward seat in Imenti Central Meru County.
“It was a day of great joy yesterday as the Independent Elections and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) cleared the first-ever candidate on a Chama Cha Kazi ticket Milton Mwenda Kabobo to vie for the Kiagu MCA seat in Imenti Central, Meru County during the October 14th 2021 by-elections. Meli imeng’oa nanga,” Wrote Moses Kuria.
Moses Kuria has been a religious supporter of the Deputy President William Ruto and subscribes to the Hustler Nation ideology, with the two seen together in a number of the movements undertakings.
The two political parties could be entangled in a duel in October if none of the candidates steps down, and could mark the first time the two parties under the Hustler Nation take on one other.
This comes barely a month ago after a similar situation was just avoided in the recent Kiambaa by-election, with Kuria’s then People’s Empowerment party withdrawing its candidate in support of UDA’s John Njuguna Wanjiku who eventually clinched the seat.
This has never been a walk in the park though for the outspoken Gatundu South lawmaker with a section of the DP’s brigade branding him a him a deep state mole.
The friction was brought about by Kuria’s recent pronouncement regarding the future of Mount Kenya region after the 2022 general election.
While Responding to his critics, the firebrand Kuria noted that he is still in Hustler Nation, and supports the DP’s bid for the 2022 top seat, adding that owning a party does not mean that his loyalty to the second in command has shifted.
“It is my horror and shock to get the kind condemnation and criticism I’m getting from people within the UDA … I’m a founder member of Hustler Nation, I’m still a believer of William Ruto and I feel like William Ruto has asked me for a date, I should come for the date in the outfit that I prefer, not the outfit that he prefers, if that is a crime, so be it,” he said.
The legislator was also faced with a rough day yesterday after his new political house Chama Cha Kazi organized for a march to office as their candidate in the by-election Milton Mwenda submitted his documentation for clearance.
Their supporters had arrived from all over aboard lorries and Motorcycles to begin the days agenda, but were unfortunately dispersed by the police officers.
