Moses Kuria’s bold message to IEBC amid claims of planned by-election postponement

Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria has once again taken the Kenyan poll body IEBC issuing a bold statement ahead of the upcoming May by-elections.

Taking to social media, the legislator divulged that he was aware of the meetings held by the IEBC and further plans to postpone the May 18, 2021, scheduled mini polls.

The Bonchari, Juja, and Rurii by-elections were slotted in mid-may just 15 months into the upcoming 2022 general elections, with Kuria now insisting it would not be a good move should the IEBC go ahead with the speculations.

The ardent Tanga Tanga legislator went ahead to accuse the ruling Jubilee party of having a hand in the decision adding that things are way tough for them to reclaim Juja.

Moses urged the IEBC not to punish the Bonchari and the Rurii people in the already scheduled by-elections just because of the Jubilee party.

Surely, I know things are elephant for Jubilee in Juja but please do not punish the people of Bonchari – Kisii County and Rurii, Nyandarua County. IEBC is held up in a meeting discussing how to postpone the 3 by-elections slated for May 18th. Dear Wafula Chebukati. Resist this. It will set a bad precedent 15 months before the General Elections,” wrote Moses Kuria.

Kuria’s People’s Empowerment Party is one of the interested parties in the Juja parliamentary seat.

The party settled on the 2017 general elections runner-up George Koimburi as their candidate, with Kuria exuding much confidence in him to clinch the seat.

Koimburi ditch the ruling Jubilee party on claims of favoritism to Waititu’s widow Susan in the party primaries.

He cited better chances of succeeding Francis in defecting to Kuria’s PEP than the other side.

“I defected because I stand a better chance in PEP. My defection should not be seen as bringing war between the government and the TangaTanga brigade. I still respect the President and his government, “he said.

The Juja seat fell vacant after the passing on of their former legislator Francis Waititu alias Wakapee from brain cancer.
