Mkapa’s Death: Kenya to Observe 3 Days of National Mourning

President Uhuru says Kenya will observe three days of national morning in respect of former President Benjamin Mkapa of Tanzania. In a glowing tribute, the Head of State said was a show of Kenya’s respect for the late president. The Kenyan Flag will be flown at half mast for the three days.

”In recognition of this immense loss and tragedy, and as a show of our National Respect for the Fallen African Giant, I have on this Friday the 24th Day of July 2020 issued a Presidential Proclamation, announcing that the Republic of Kenya shall observe THREE DAYS of national mourning throughout the entire territory of our Country.

”This takes effect from sunrise on Monday 27 July 2020 to sunset on Wednesday 29 July 2020. During this mourning period, the Kenyan Flag and the Flag of the East African Community shall fly at half-mast,” President Uhuru said.

Mkapa died late on Thursday after a short illness, which forced him to be admitted at a Dar es Salaam hospital.

Born on 12 November 1938, he rose to the presidency in 1995 and served until 2005 before handing over to Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete.
