Martha Karua urges President Uhuru to reconcile with DP Ruto ahead of 2022 Presidential election

Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua has appealed to President Uhuru Kenyatta to bury the hatchet and reconcile with his deputy William Ruto ahead of 2022 Presidential election.

Speaking to Citizen Tv on Tuesday, May 25, 2021 Karua said Uhuru should work with Ruto even if they do not agree on some issues.

“He should be bringing the nation together, leading by example by having good relations with his deputy even when they do not agree. Having the handshake with the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga does not mean that he cannot continue having good relations with his deputy.

“He has set a very bad example where the president can ignore the constitution and the law and lockout his deputy from work. One wonders, then, who would want to be a DP in those circumstances?” Martha posed.

On Thursday, April 15, 2021 during an interview with a media station, Ruto confirmed that all was not well within the ruling Jubilee Party.

The DP noted that Deputy Presidents in Kenya have been facing rebellions since the country gained independence in 1963.

“Very many deputy presidents are fought. That is unfortunate. Given an opportunity, I will not allow my DP to be humiliated the way former DPs have been humiliated and the way I have been humiliated.” Ruto stated.

The Jubilee deputy party leader, whose influence has greatly diminished in government after the March 2018 handshake between Uhuru and Raila dismissed claims he had disrespected the head of state.

Ruto, however, said despite his woes, he would not resign from his plum position because he was elected by Kenyans.

“I am not yet at the point where I want to resign…Some people believe they can push me to resign, but I want to remind them that I was elected. I am not going to allow them to celebrate their effort to push me out of government,” DP Ruto said.

According to the political analyst Mark Bichachi, Ruto may not reconcile with Uhuru ahead of the 2022 General Election claiming that Bichachi the DP was not known for looking back after crossing paths with someone.

“It is unlikely (for Ruto to reconcile with Uhuru) since the most pain caused to Uhuru this term has been done by Ruto or sponsored by Ruto. They are ideologically so different as well. Also, Ruto has never been known to reconcile with anybody. That isn’t part of how he operates. In the unlikely event that they do reconcile then, Ruto will secure Mt Kenya in hs vote basket and that would make him the man to beat in 2022,” Bichachi said.
