Detectives are currently on a frantic search for a police officer accused of shooting dead a colleague at their work station in Laikipia County.
The officer on the run Mr. Titus Keen is reported to have shot dead his fellow officer only identified as Leonard Ojwang’ on Wednesday, August 18 at Doldol Police Station.
According to the police sources, Mr. Keen attached to the Doldol station made away with a loaded AK-47 rifle shortly after the act.
“The incident occurred at their residence in the police lines,” a police report stated. It, however, did not clarify what led to the shooting.
Police officers from Laikipia confirmed the incident, noting that detectives are already combing the crime scene for evidence and further analysis, adding that the crime scene had already been sealed to avoid tampering with crucial evidence.
This comes barely a month after a similar incident was witnessed in Kasarani police station in Nakuru where rogue cop Caroline Kangogo shot dead her colleague John Ogweno inside a vehicle at the parking lot.
She was further accused in the murder of a security expert Mr. Peter Ndwiga at a hotel in Ruiru Kiambu County, before being found dead at their Anin home in Elgeyo Marakwet after dodging detectives for almost a month.
“There was a hole in her head caused by the bullet and areas of burning called muscle print. The incident happened at the crime scene. There were stories of whether she was shot or she shot herself.”
“We shall only establish that once we do more tests. We have taken swabs on the hand to find out whether there was gunshot residue. As a pathologist, my job is to establish the cause of death. We shall only establish the manner of death—either suicide, accident or natural death—once we see the lab results,” Chief Government Pathologist, Dr.Johansen Oduor stated after conducting an autopsy.
This comes just days after police IG Hillary Mutyambai unveiled counselling program for police officers and their families for psychological support.
“The recruited staff will be instrumental in offering psychological support to police officers and their families with a view to improving their life skills,” stated the IG.
