Lawyer Ahmednasir speaks on Ruto leading a ‘NO’ BBI referendum team

Senior Counsel Ahmednasir Abdullahi has claimed that Deputy President William Ruto will not oppose the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) Constitutional amendment bill.

City lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi on Saturday, February 27, 2021 said that DP Ruto stands to benefit from the proposal in the BBI bill to have an expanded executive and therefore will not oppose the BBI referendum.

Ahmednasir took to his social media page and posted a message claiming that those politicians pushing Ruto to lead the BBI ‘No’ campaigns have got ill motives.

“Some political lowlifes shout from the rooftop 24/7 that DP Ruto should lead the “NO” campaign to bbi…which serious Presidential candidates will not welcome the opportunities for tribal coalition building BBI provide? President, Deputy President, Prime Minister, 2 Deputies,” Ahmendnassir tweeted.

The Senior Counsel also noted that any serious presidential candidate would welcome the proposal to expand the executive to enable him/her build a strong coalition team that can accommodate everybody in the coalition.

Many expected him DP Ruto to lead the ‘no’ campaign in the referendum after he emerged as the biggest criticizer of BBI document after it was initiated and launched by President Uhuru Kenyatta and Opposition leader Raila Odinga.

However, while speaking in Nandi County on Friday, February 26, 2021, the second in command said he will not lead the no campaign but would allow Kenyans to make their own independent decision.

“There are some people who are trying to push me to oppose BBI, I want to tell them that I will not lead the no campaign but I will let Kenyans decide on their own…I believe in democracy and I will respect the decision the people of Kenya,” Ruto said.
