Kositany’s statement before ouster; we will support BBI if it has a clause saying Raila will accept election results

The official Deputy Party leader of Jubilee Party, and unofficial leader of UDA, Dr. William Samoei Ruto, has for a long time maintained that they are ready to take part in BBI consensus talks, as long as there are no threats or preconditions.

However, Soi MP Caleb Kositany has come up with a very interesting, not to mention stunning precondition that has to be met before his tanga tanga wing of Jubilee can even consider supporting the BBI proposals.

Kositany who was engaged in a dramatic and unbelievable spat with his party vice-chair David Murathe last week, and consequently lost his position as Jubilee Deputy secretary general to Cherangany MP Joshua Kutuny yesterday, isn’t new to eyebrow raising declarations.

Kositany says that it is not only important, but a matter of utmost urgency, that there be included in the BBI report, a clause within the Constitutional Amendment Bill 2020 which says that Raila Odinga will be obligated by law to accept the results which are announced by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission.

This, he said, was because he believes that the former Prime Minister has a history of always disputing results, and all the benefits contained in the BBI report won’t be realised if Raila still fails to concede defeat, in the event that he incurs it.

The Soi MP was on Citizen TV’s morning show Daybreak, on an episode which was titled State of the Nation, hosted by Trevor Ombija last week. While the MP was linking with studio via internet, those in the studio were Machakos governor Alfred Mutua, Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo and Kiambu senator, who is also the Senate Chief Whip, Kimani Wamatangi.

While this is the first of such a drastic and unusual demand by the tanga tanga wing of government, it isn’t the first time that sentiments of this nature have been delivered by MPs from the camp. In the past, Elgeyo Marakwet senator Kipchumba Murkomen has accused Raila Odinga of being a sour loser who instigated chaos after failing to acquire power through the ballot. He went on to criticise the BBI saying it set a bad example since it encouraged violence by implying that if you instigate chaos you are rewarded.
