Kirinyaga Women representative Purity Ngirici welcomes Governor Waiguru to DP Ruto’s UDA party

Kirinyaga Woman Representative, Purity Ngirici has welcomed her County Governor Ann Waiguru to the Deputy President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party ahead of 2022 general elections.

On Wednesday, September 8, 2021, Kirinyaga County Women Representative who is a close ally of Deputy President William Ruto  welcomed Governor Waiguru to United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party.

Ngirici who has also declared her interest for the Kirinyaga Gubernatorial seat for the forthcoming 2022 general elections in UDA party ticket, welcomed Waiguru to face off with her during the party’s nominations.

“I’m optimistic that I will defeat the current governor by far, watch this space,” Ngirici stated.

The Kirinyaga Woman Representative had declared that she will ensure that Deputy President William Ruto gets enough votes from the Mount Kenya region that will see him win the Presidency.

This comes after Governor Waiguru who is a close ally of President Uhuru Kenyatta expressed her fears that she might fail to defend her seat if she vies on a Jubilee party ticket come 2022 general elections.

In an interview, governor Waiguru claimed that the ruling party had fallen out with the Mt Kenya people, adding that she needed time to consult residents on which party she should defend her seat.

“For now, I am spending time on the ground, listening to what the people want. One needs to be careful to make the right decision to survive politically. I am asking my people which ‘vehicle’ to use to secure my seat,” Waiguru stated.

She added that she was not interested in being a running mate, rather, wanted to defend her seat.

“Sometimes politicians are elected on the wave of political parties, so you can be swept away despite your good performance by the wave that comes your way.”

Waiguru also stated that she would not rule out working with the DP, but noted that it was a bit too early to engage in the discussion of joining UDA.

“I can’t say I would join UDA or not. You know this is politics, but it is unlikely, it is a bit early. Let us see how the ground looks like,” she stated.
