Keynan reveals how he worked with Kang’ata as Whip to persecute DP’s men with ODM help

Eldas member of parliament Adan Keynan who also doubles up as the Jubilee coalition Parliamentary Group Secretary has rubbished calls by Murang’a senator Irungu Kang’ata that all the Jubilee party members who have been supporting the policies of ODM should resign.

Kang’ata had earlier claimed that Kieleweke members including the president had violated the Political Parties Act by supporting the ideologies of a different party, and so had no legitimacy or authority to speak on party loyalty. Keynan went on to reveal how Kang’ata once used ODM numbers to punish tanga tanga members.

Keynan was speaking while appearing on KTN’s weekly political show Crossfire which was hosted by the station’s presenter Akisa Wandera. Alongside Keynan in the KTN studios was Murang’a senator Irungu Kang’ata.

Keynan said that when Irungu Kang’ata was still the Senate Majority Whip before he was ousted and replaced by Kiambu County senator Kimani Wamatangi, he was a big beneficiary of the same ODM numbers that he was now criticising. He revealed that they were both in the same camp and operated together where he saw first-hand how senator Kang’ata would use ODM numbers to his advantage to execute purges against perceived party enemies, and pass other Bills.

It is famously remembered that back in June last year, as Kang’ata had just been elected into the Majority Whip office to replace ousted Nakuru senator Susan Kihika, he promised an impending purge.
The then senator majority whip supported changes being done in various parliamentary committee membership and leadership saying those being removed were poor performers and had failed to champion government’s agenda.

“There is no malicious target to some MPs as many people were alleging. The changes are meant to remove those who have not been performing their duties effectively in both national assembly and the senate,” he noted.

He predicted that some of the culprits may lose their positions and others get reshuffled as the President moves to put in place a determined team to drive his agenda on attaining national unity and equitable development

“The president is on record saying he is determined to ensure the country is united, a move which was initiated through handshake and also implementation of the big four agenda. If as a leader you are not supporting the president in his efforts, then count yourself out,” stated the Senator at the time.
