Key suspect in the murder of MP’s aide arrested by DCI

Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives have arrested a boda boda rider linked to the brutal murder of Kanduyi Member of Parliament Wafula Wamunyinyi’s aide in Bungoma county.

While confirming the arrest, Bungoma South police boss Benjamin Kimwele stated that the suspect was in custody helping police with investigation over the death of Peter Ochieng.

Detectives from the DCI have requested the court to give them more time to interrogate the suspect who was last seen in the company of Ochieng popularly known as Storm.

“We asked the court to grant us more days so that we can continue interrogating the suspect and see if we can get more information from him,” Kimwele stated.

“So far all he says is that he dropped the late on the main road at the Kanduyi-Bungoma dual road opposite Outlaw’s Bar, and that’s a few meters from the scene of the crime”, he added.

His arrest comes barely a day after a key witness in the murder of Storm was attacked and killed by unknown assailants after revealing the names of the suspects.

Edward Maruti who hails from Kimilili town, Bungoma County, was chopped with a panga leading to his death after two men attacked him at his home while his wife escaped with serious injuries.

In his statement, Kimilili OCPD Mwita Marwa revealed that Maruti had handed over the names of the suspects involved in the killing of the MP’s aide.

“The victim knew two of the suspects who killed Peter Ochieng alias Storm and had given us the names of the two. Investigations are ongoing to nab the two who are well known by residents here (Bungoma County),” the Police boss stated.
