American based Dr. Japheth Kavinga Kaluyu has announced his candidacy with a bang. The scholar who holds a doctorate in Urban Health and considers himself a no-nonsense candidate has expressed confidence in clinching the top seat which pundits have already declared to be going to either the Deputy President, or the former Prime Minister. Not satisfied with simply just putting the fear of God in the two supposed front-runners, Dr. Kavinga has, as a matter of fact, gone ahead to issue them with what is probably his own version of irreducible minimums, and he clearly doesn’t care if the rest of the entire country laughs at him thinking he has lost his mind.
Speaking while making a virtual appearance on TV47’s weekly political show, Pundits Night, which was hosted by Abubakar Abdullahi, the American based scholar said that if either Raila Odinga or William Ruto happen to beat him, then he is ready and willing to not only accept but also support them. However, In equal measure, he also called upon the two to support him and his government in the event that he beats them.
He was flanked by another presidential hopeful, professor Wajakoya.
Apart from his pronouncements that may be considered theatrics by some, Dr. Kaluyu made some pretty weighty contributions on the whole issue of bottoms up, outlining the reasons why it’s likely to work in the American case of Joe Biden, but doomed for failure in the case of Deputy President William Ruto.
Drawing clear distinctions between democracy and democratisation, he said that the major difference between the viability of economic models in the two countries lay in the institutional structures.
Born on October 20 1966 in Kakuuni village, Makueni County, Kaluyu’s father was a business man and his mother a teacher.
He went to St Charles Lwanga Secondary School in Kitui and proceeded to Thompson Falls High School in Nyahururu. Dr Kaluyu claims he worked at a bank after high school and saved enough money to travel to New Jersey, US in 1993 in a bid to seek greener pastures.
He joined Ramapo College for a Bachelor of Finance and Economics degree and pursued a Masters on the same at New Jersey Institute of Technology. He holds a PhD in Urban Health Policy from University of Medicine and Dentistry in New Jersey. He says the desire to become president is real.
