Kaluma says Matiang’I will be lucky to be an MP

On a day that saw Matiang’I and Ruto engage in a nasty verbal exchange in which the deputy president accused the interior CS of trying to control independent bodies, while the CS accused the deputy president of hypocrisy, Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma made sure the eventful day ended on a high note after giving a mischievous opinion on Fred Matiang’I’s possible future in politics.

Peter Kaluma, in not so many words, appeared to conclude that the Cabinet Secretary for Interior will be lucky to be an MP in the coming parliament.

The MP was speaking on KTN’s political show Punchline which was hosted by Sophie Wanuna.
Appearing alongside Uasin Gishu women represantative Gladys Boss Shollei, Kaluma was outlining the benefits of the BBI which had come under attack from Shollei moments earlier, when he began explaining how the report proposed that Cabinet Secretaries be MPs, and how this was a good thing.

Having stated the challenges that occur when dealing with a CS who isn’t a member of the house, he juxtaposed this against the BBI scenario before going on to add,

”If Matiang’I will be lucky enough to be an MP, and is appointed a CS, then he will be sitting in the house where he will be required to answer house queries”

Incidentally, just hours earlier, infrastructure CS James Macharia had made an unprecedented statement when he seemed to announce that the best person to take over from Uhuru Kenyatta was Fred Matiang’i. Praising the work that the president had done thus far, he added that the only person who was qualified enough to take over afterwards is the person who had been helping him in his leadership for the last three years.

Dr. Fred Matiang’I has over the years been touted as a possible presidential candidate while others have tried to sell him off as a potential running mate, yet others have predicted him as a governor, and probably in his home county of Nyamira.
