The late former Gem Member of Parliament Washington Jakoyo Midiwo was taken ill on Saturday, and was rushed to the Nairobi hospital on June 12, 2021.
He was then admitted to the facility’s Intensive care unit after his blood pressure fell very low as indicated by the family.
Speaking on behalf of the family his brother George Midiwo stated that the the deceased was then well and could even speak the following day, only do die on Monday June 14, 2021 at around 4 PM.
George also disclosed that the former legislator also also been diagnosed with acute kidney failure with the doctors trying to establish its cause.
The firebrand legislator had travelled from his rural Gem home to Nairobi to celebrate his two children’s excellent academic performance before his death.
“His daughter had recently graduated from a South African university while his son scored an A (plain) in the 2020 KCSE exam,” George told the Standard.
The Midiwo family has seen the roughest of times, losing four family members in a span of just two weeks with his elder sister Julia who died on Sunday, his grandmother who passed away on June 2 and a maternal uncle.
“We lost Jakoyo today but many don’t know we lost his elder sister Julia on Sunday. Double tragedy. A tragic loss. Gutted!” the deceased’s niece Winnie Odinga wrote on Twitter.
His untimely death death was announced yesterday by his Orange Democratic Movement Party who mourned him as a gallant son of the soil.
“A founder member of the Change Movement and a three time Member of Parliament for Gem Hon. Jakoyo Midiwo. He was a defender of the party and never shied away from speaking the truth,” the party wrote.
