The names of the six police officers linked with the death of the Koanjokoma brothers, Emmanuel Mutura and Benson Njiru have been revealed.

According to state broadcaster KBC, Consolata Njeri, Benson Mbuthia, Lilian Cherono, Martin Wanyama, Nicholas Sang and James Mwaniki who is a driver are the faces behind the shocking deaths that sparked public outrage.

The six were arraigned in court under heavy security today and made desperate attempts to evade cameras.

Some covered their faces and heads with Masai shukas to conceal their identity as the press attempted to give Kenyans the first picture of the suspects.

The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) was the first to lift the lid on the identities of the suspects.

In a report published on Monday August 16, IPOA recommended capital offence charges against the six.

“That the officers and their commanders, who have since been interrogated and their statements recorded, be available round the clock for further assistance to IPOA investigators when called upon,” said the statement in part.

Shortly afterwards, the Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji swang into action, directing Police Inspector General Hillary Mutyambai to arrest the officers and produce them to court.

“I am shortly directing the IG to immediately arrest and arraign in court, in Nairobi, all officers involved pending investigations by the IPOA to avoid any interference with evidence and or intimidation of witnesses,” Haji said in a statement.

Reports indicate that the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji has requested for more time to detain the suspects through a miscellaneous application to conclude investigations.

The two brothers who have come to be known as the Kianjokoma brothers; Benson Njiru and Emmanuel Mutura were found dead a day after they had been arrested by the police.

An autopsy conducted at the Embu Level 5 Hospital indicated that the two succumbed to head and rib injuries inflicted by a blunt object.
