What started 48 hours ago with a cryptic tweet from Juliani complaining that you can not steal someone if she is an adult with an independent and intelligent mind, has quickly escalated into something dangerous within a matter of hours, and yesterday he was forced to record a statement with the police after someone allegedly made a threat on his life for posting pictures of him and Lilian Nganga.
Now, the governor has come out to defend himself against allegations that were levelled at him, as the Juliani controversy rages on.
Yesterday, in the midst of all the drama, and with Juliani trending for the better part of the day, Machakos governor Dr. Alfred Mutua was busy fighting his own wars, shrugging off allegations that he might have been involved in corruption through bribing voters. After appearing on Citizen TV’s morning show Daybreak which was hosted by Trevor Ombija, where he addressed the issue of bribing voters through handouts, the TV tweeted his statement on the issue.
Later on during the day, as the story of Juliani receiving death threats was catching on like wild fire, Dr. Mutua retweeted the Citizen TV post. It read,
Dr. Alfred Mutua Retweeted
Citizen TV Kenya @citizentvkenya
“I have never bribed a voter. I went to an area where my main opposition person comes from watu wakaniambia “last time tulikupigia bila kutupatia kitu this time kama hautupatii hatukupigii, nikwaambia msinipigie” because we cannot be a culture where you buy votes…” – Dr. Mutua
The governor has always prided himself on being scandal free and with a clean track record as far as corruption is involved. He once boasted of getting rich at a very young age, and made his first millions while still a young man.
The entire hullabaloo going on started days ago after a photo of Juliani and the Governor’s ex-wife hanging out surfaced. Days later, the Hip-hop artiste caused a stir with a tweet that suggested he had been threatened, and defiantly dismissed accusations of stealing someone, saying you can’t steal a person if she is an adult with an intelligent mind. The tweet read,
How now can you “iba mtu”?! An intelligent adult with a sound mind. The call/text threat on my life today,NOT funny! “ulinyang’anyana” narrative is false, tired, juicy headlines tu. Kindly STOP! For the threats, usi aim face,na prefer niki smile kwa open casket. Baraka
Later on, he actually recorded a statement with the police over the issue.
