Details have emerged on how powerful state officials allied to President Uhuru Kenyatta attack Deputy President William Ruto during the day and plead with him for forgiveness during the night.
The Star reports that the powerful state officers do send emissaries to mend fences with the second in command after a busy day criticizing him in preparation for any eventuality.
The officials in question are reported to be mulling over their future should DP Ruto succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta and are keen to remain in his good books even as they spew political attacks that favour their current alignment.
The official in question are reported to have “Plans A and B in case things don’t go his way in the coming high-stakes general election”. They are seen castigating the Deputy President by day but at night, he sends emissaries to DP Ruto, asking to be forgiven for the insults. He says he is “just doing the bidding of my boss”.
As part of the deal, the officials are reported to have even promised to share information with people close to the DP in exchange for leniency, in case the DP becomes president in next year’s general election.
With this revelation, it now emerges that the wing allied to the head of state could have so many double agents and adds credibility to Ruto’s earlier claims that there are so many Cabinet Secretaries, state officials, senators, governors and MPs who support his bid in secret and are afraid of declaring their support in public for fear of reprisals.
“The DPP, the courts, the EACC don’t work under instructions. I was against the DCI sensationalizing their investigations. EACC should be given a free hand to do their job. But the general view is investigations should be expedited,” Ruto said.
In an interview with NTV, Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua who is a close DP Ruto ally revealed that prior to last week’s meeting, Oparanya had met DP Ruto three times in his presence and all is now set for him to cross over alongside many others.
“That meeting between Ruto and Oparanya is the fourth meeting in a row. I was present in two previous ones. He approached us in 2019 and 2020 wanting to join the Hustler nation because of the pressure from the people of Kakamega and the leaders there and we have been discussing. Those meetings were held in private as he did not want them publicized. But now he is ready to come to us (join the hustler movement) and this meeting was at his request. He came to negotiate on his own behalf.
“Oparanya is not alone. The other week the DP met 17 governors in private for fear of them being harassed.” Confirmed the Mathira lawmaker.
Ruto cast his nets wider and confirmed that so many others will in the coming days cross over to his camp.
“I have met Wycliff Oparanya probably five times. Of course, more times because he was chairman of the Council of Governors. But I have met him to discuss politics five times. At no time did we discuss him being sent by Odinga. We have discussed with him how we can work together and how he appreciates the hustler narrative and the Bottom-Up approach,” said Ruto.
