A matatu driver has been arrested and charged with killing a traffic police officer who was enforcing night curfew hours.
The driver identified was Justus Bosire was charged with two counts of running over and killing a traffic officer by the name Protus Rotich and contravention of the curfew orders made by the President Uhuru Kenyatta.
In the police report, it is said the driver was driving carelessly before he knocked down the traffic cop.
The court also found the matatu did not have valid insurance policy and heard it was a case of hit and run after the driver failed to report the accident which took place along Kenya builders road, in Kware area, Nairobi.
The driver, Bosire is said to have defied the orders to stop as the deceased officer tried to wave at him, ending up hitting and killing him.
Police launched a manhunt after multiple eyewitness accounts and arrested the driver after four days when he tried to change the damaged windscreen at a garage in Utawala.
Justus Bosire Kiboma was however released on a Sh500,000 bond after denied the charges. The matter will be heard on July 28, 2020.
