After months of troubling lifestyle coupled with an also grounded economy, Kenyans finally have something to smile about regarding the bedeviling Covid-19 pandemic.
This is after the health Cabinet secretary Mutahi Kagwe yesterday Wednesday 23 announced a free Coronavirus vaccine for all when they arrive in the country.
While talking in an interview the CS said that the vaccine will be integrated into the government’s national immunization program and offered for free for all.
The free vaccination is expected to cover twenty percent of the population with the government ordering for an additional 24 Million doses from the Gavi Covax facility.
This comes just shortly after the Ministry of Health had announced the allocation of 10 billion shillings for additional vaccines to cover 10 percent of the population.
Reports from the Ministry of Health reveal that Kenya had submitted an application to the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunisation (Gavi) for permission to bring the Covid-19 jab into the country.
The jab vaccine prices vary depending on the manufacturer with the prices ranging from Ksh 335 to Ksh 4,127, while the moderna two-dose going for Ksh 5,577 a patient.
The Ministry of health however has a likelihood to settle on the Hybrid type of using two types of vaccines as had announced by the Health acting Director-General Patrick Amoth.
“We are currently looking at various vaccines with different costs. Although we have not yet decided on the exact one, we are likely to use a hybrid,” Amoth told Nation
The police, healthcare workers, and teachers are among those who will be given first priority once the vaccine arrives in the country.
