Governor Mutua’s Maendeleo Chap Chap candidate drops out of Machakos Senatorial race

Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua’s Maendeleo Chap Chap Party candidate for the Machakos Senatorial by-election has withdrawn from the race barely days to the by-election.

The withdrawal of the former Cabinet Minister Mutua Katuku from the Machakos Senatorial race has left the floor to United Democratic Alliance’s (UDA) Urbanus Ngengele and Wiper’s Agnes Kavindu.

According to the Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua, the decision was arrived at as a move to extend goodwill to President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Handshake partner Raila Odinga as well as for the entire BBI brigade.

The Machakos Governor also said that his party (Maendeleo Chap Chap) supported President Uhuru Kenyatta’s re-election and is firmly behind him in his development agenda.  

“Maendeleo Chap Chap Party supported the re-election of President Uhuru Kenyatta and in the spirit of consistency, we support his development agenda and the political stability of the Nation. The party extends goodwill to the President, to Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga and other B.B.I partners by withdrawing its candidate from the forthcoming by-election,” Mutua said.

Machakos County has about 624,000 registered voters, according to data on the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission’s (IEBC) website who will be going to elect their senator in the by-election.
