Former Harambee Stars defender Zablon Amanaka is dead

Former Harambee Stars veteran defender Zablon Amanaka is dead. Amanaka was found dead in his house in Maji Mazuri, Mwiki on Friday, May 28, 2021.

His death was announced by his former club Sofapaka FC through their message of condolence to the bereaved family.

“Our deepest condolences to family and friends of the late Zablon Amanaka. During his stay at the club,Amanaka served us diligently and passionately,indeed the sporting fraternity has lost true icon.” A club statement from Sofapaka read.

However, the cause of his death remains unclear.

Reports reveal that the 45-year old former Harambee Stars defender had been dead for a couple of days before his body was found.

On Monday, October 5, 2020, reports had revealed that the famous sportsman who made Kenya proud on the football competition was reportedly wallowing in poverty.

According to photos that was going round on social media revealed that the former Harambee Stars defender Zablon Amanaka was struggling to make ends in Mwiki state in Nairobi County.

A local journalist shared photos showing the poor state of the former Harambee Stars defender on his Facebook page and noted that Kenya doesn’t care about its heroes.

‘This is former Harambee Stars defender Zablon Amanaka. He is somewhere in Mwiki trying to make ends meet. Kenya is a big joke when it comes to remembering its heroes. I will give you his story very soon,” the journalist wrote.
