Tragedy struck yesterday night Thursday September 2, 2021 In Mashuru area of Kajiado County after five members of a family succumbed in the night inferno after their house went up in flames.
According to the police reports from the crime scene, among the five dead includes a mother, her three children and the family house help.
Further reports indicate that the family head (Father) Saitoti Maina was away from the house when the unfortunate event took place.
Confirming the incident, area assistant chief Jonathan Sikongei stated that the deadly fires started at around 10 pm further suggesting it might have been caused by an electronic short-circuit.
He confirmed receiving reports about the same, noting that they trie their best to save the lives and properties in vain.
“Tulipata habari kuwa kuna watu watano wameangamia kwenye moto wa stima, tukakimbilia hapa na tukajaribu kuwaokoa lakini haingewezekana (We got reports that there are five people in a burning house, we rushed to the scene and tried to rescue them but we were unsucessful),” Sikongei stated.
According to Citizen Digital quting one of the family friends, Mr. Paul Maina, the family Cooking gas was found lying intact in the house after the fire was put out, leaving electric circuit as one the remaining possible causes.
“Moto ilianzia saa nne kamili jana usiku, tulipata kuwa kulikuwa na short ya stima sababu gas ilikuwa intact kwa scene (The fire started at 10 pm yesternight, we established that it was caused by an electric short-circuit because we found the gas intact at the scene),” Maina said.
The bodies of the five deceased family members had since been moved to the Kajiado County Referral Hospital mortuary as investigations are ongoing to ascertain the real cause of the fire starts.
The incident comes just hours after an administration police officer died on Thursday, September 2, 2021, inside his house in what appears like a suicide.
Police suspects that the colleague set himself ablaze inside his own house and his body burning beyond recognition, with the fire spreading all over burning down the adjacent houses in the camp.
The unfortunate incident came barely a week after the National Police Service Commission (NPSC) launched a scheme to address the escalating suicide and murder cases among its uniformed officers.
The service launched a scheme aimed at addressing depression which is the main cause of the high cases of murder and suicide within the force the program will see officers undergo mental assessment, before being put on a recovery program.
