Eyes on DP Ruto as IEBC reveal date for Matungu by-election

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has set a date for Matungu constituency by-election.

According to the commission, the constituency’s by-election would be conducted on March 4, 2021.

The commission also stated that all parties and individual interested in the election should submit their names before Monday, December 21, 2020.

Also, IEBC urged parties to solve their disputes before forwarding the names of the nominees.

It also demanded that independent candidates could only qualify after confirming that they were not aligned to any party for three months.

For public officers who wish to participate in the elections, IEBC stated that they shall resign from public office within seven days of the declaration of a vacancy by the speaker.

IEBC further promised to publish the names of the successful applicants in a Gazette Notice.

“A public officer who intends to contest in the by-elections shall resign from public office within seven days of the declaration of a vacancy by the speaker of the respective assemblies.

“The commission shall publish, in the Gazette, the names of the persons contesting in a party primary and the date of the party primary within seven days of receipt of the names of candidates,” read the notice in part.
