The Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) on Wednesday proscribed former Governs Mike Sonko and Ferdinand Waititu from vying for any elective seats in the country. According to the anti-graft body, Sonko and Waititu do not meet the Chapter 6 Integrity test and are no longer fit to hold any public office in Kenya. Ferdinand Waititu, the indicted Kiambu Governor had rushed to Nairobi to try his luck on the vacant seat.
However, Baba Yao should not be the only one cracked by the EACC whip. Agnes Kagure, who may be next in line to succeed ousted Sonko is a polished Queen of the Underworld, whose closet is full of cases of fraud and illicit multimillion dealings.
Jubilee Party cleared former Dagoretti South MP Dennis Waweru, who is also the Building Bridges Initiative co-chairman, and Ms. Agnes Kagure for the Nairobi race.
Apart from having been accused of having a fake degree from the University of Thailand, many things on the ”Finance Executive” do not add up. Prior to 2018, nothing or very little information was available in the public realm about Ms. Kagure.
After the resignation of Polycarp Igathe in February 2018, and a subsequent appointment by ousted Mike Sonko as Deputy Governor, Kagure’s team rushed to give the little known insurance broker a social media presence.
A Facebook page was set up on 11th February 2018, two weeks after Igathe’s resignation. A month later, a Wikipedia account, last edited on 20th March 2018 was set up by the team. Ten days earlier, a website under Anne Kagure’s name was formed and our investigations reveal it was created by an individual named Sam Kamau (firstname.lastname@example.org).
When her name was put forward to the IEBC as a replacement for Polycarp Igathe, Anne Kagure’s admirers saw her as the perfect choice. Her credentials as a gender activist and reputation in the insurance sector impressed the corporate Nairobi.
In an application dated January 31, 2017, the Environmental Court gave temporary orders stopping Agnes Kagure from forcefully grabbing a parcel of land in Umoja. The property, Nairobi Block 83/1903 was legally owned by a businessman Joel Munene. This is not the first case of chicanery under the Jubilee Party candidates name.
She is also in court over a property dispute in Karen, which she claims she bought from the late Roger Bryan Robinson. However, the family of the late Robinson claims Ms. Kagure forged documents and fraudulently transferred the ownership of the property to her name.
Mr. Robinson’s estate is a 5.2-acre property on Ushirika Road in Karen and a half-acre plot with flats on it next to the Nairobi Hospital. The property is estimated to be worth more than 0.5B.
According to records from our source at the KRA, there are no records of the wealthy businesswoman filing any returns between 2004 and 2015. She started filing taxes in 2017 despite her massive investments across the city. Of concern from our mole at Times Tower is that all the four companies associated with Agnes Kagure are all ghost companies with no physical locations or offices.
The companies include Antonio’s grill, Dynamic Mini Mart, Consolota Pharmacy, and Universal Nautical Ltd. A search in the registrar of companies reveals that Antonio’s grill is not a company but a business name. The other three have zero records from the Registrar of Companies or the KRA.
Nairobi has had the worst 7 years under Devolution. Residents rebelled against Dr. Evans Kidero over deep-rooted fudging at City Hall, a thing Mike Sonko inherited and perfected. Nairobians are not ready to agonize under another mediocre leadership, but we will if the EACC gives Agnes Kagure a pass.
