Eight construction workers buried alive in a construction site

Eight construction workers have been buried alive in Kirinyaga County while working on a water project.

The eight who are all construction workers, were on Monday, August 30, 2021 digging a water trench project in Kiandieri area of Kirinyaga Central in Kirinyaga County when the incidence happened.

The incident was confirmed by Kirinyaga Central Deputy Commissioner Daniel Ndege who stated that the rescue efforts are underway with residents and county rescue teams in efforts to save the lives of the buried workers.

According to the eye witnesses at the scene, the eight were buried in sewer caves that they have been working on for sometimes now.

The Kirinyaga county Government’s emergency response team, medical team and area residents rushed to the area of scene to save the lives of those who are still buried.

Reports reveal that those who were rescued from the tragedy were rushed to the Kerugoya Level 4 hospital for treatment.

The cases where construction workers are buried at their sites have become rampant in different parts of the country.

This comes as three other people were also buried alive while digging a pit latrine in Nyeri County on June 5, 2021.

In December of 2019, a 27-year-old man who was harvesting sand at Abwoga sand quarry in Budalang’i constituency, Busia County was buried alive after the quarry caved in barely a week after another man had been buried on the same site.
