EACC Fraudster Charged For Blackmailing Senate Speaker Kenneth Lusaka

A middle-aged man poised as an Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) officer in an attempt to extort Ksh. 100, 000 from Senate speaker Kenneth Lusaka has been arrested and charged.

The mad identified as Victor Mayanja alias Joseph Kinuthia was arraigned in court today Monday August, 30, 2021, after his arrest over the weekend when he posed to collect the money from the former Bungoma County chief at a city hotel.

Victor Mayanja the accused was grilled for hours for threatening the Senate speaker with an expose on graft and embezzlement of fund with the primary aim of tarnishing his name and reputation.

The accused was face with the three charges including impersonating an EACC official while presenting himself to Senator Lusaka as an investigator on March 15, 2014.

He was also presented with forcefully intending to extort the sum of Kshs.100, 000 from the Senate speaker to examine an alleged graft scandal against the former Bungoma County boss.

This is after the imposter Mayanja presented himself to a one Mr. Harold Keitany an anti-graft officer cum detective a city hotel on March 20, 2014.

Senator Lusaka was lined as a witness in the today’s case, where the suspect is accused of contravening Section 34 of the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Act No 3 of 2003.

The prosecution’s request to have Mr. Mayanja detained for a further two weeks to conclude the investigations were however denied by the chief magistrate Lawrence Mugambi.

The lead prosecutor in the case also denied bail applications arguing that the accused would tamper with, and compromise the investigations thereby affecting the case.

The fortnight period requested by the accused would have been used to file a formal application listing several grounds for denying the accused release on bail.

The accused lawyer however did not oppose nor consent to the prosecutor’s request. Nonetheless, Justice Mugambi directed the prosecution to detain Manyanja for a period of one week only and serve the defence with an affidavit strictly within that stipulated period.

The accused Victor Mayanja alias Joseph Kinuthia was transferred to Industrial Area Remand Prison, with his case to be mentioned on September 6.
