Police have foiled an alleged plot to storm the Kamiti Maximum Prison and rescue the former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko, arresting two men arraigned in Kahawa court today.
The two Clifford Ochieng Ouko and Benjamin Onyango Odhiambo were arraigned before the magistrate earlier today for threatening to storm the prison and rescue the ex-governor.
The Court heard that the two were found in possession of an attire that resembles that of the military, which they had been spotted wearing in public.
On close examination, an expert officer with the Anti- Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU) revealed that the uniform resembled that worm by a terror group.
Reports indicate that the two are dangerous and have been financing terror activities across the country.
A further search has consequently been carried out in their homes in Buru Buru and Komarock areas with a number of items found including, military attire, mobile phones, DVDs, Sim Cards, and a laptop.
Citing a threat to national security, the investigating officer now wants the two to be detained for another 30 days awaiting a thorough forensic study to establish more about the suspects.
Sonko is currently at Kamiti maximum prison facing terrorism charges, and the ATPU seeking his detention for a further 30 to facilitate investigations into financing acts of terrorism, and robbery with violence.
These come hours after former Deputy President and wiper Democratic Movement party leader Kalonzo Musyoka yesterday reached out to President Kenyatta to forgive Sonko for his wrongdoings.
(I appeal to you President Uhuru Kenyatta to forgive our brother Mike Sonko despite the insults he has directed at you on numerous occasions. On behalf of everyone, we ask for forgiveness. Once he’s done with these episodes, we will still mentor him. Don’t hold a grudge against him,”) Kalonzo appealed.
