Deputy President William Ruto has reacted to tomorrow’s scheduled meeting between the Country’s top Interior security officers and the National assembly committee on Administration and National government.
Taking online on his official Facebook page, the seemingly unperturbed DP noted that the Parliament’s precious time should never be wasted on non-issues like the scheduled meeting, adding that his new team are a professional service provider.
He further cautioned those belittling his new security team as a downgrade noting that they are wrong, while urging the parliament to instead focus on more serious security situations in volatile areas with mayhem and destruction.
“PARLIAMENTARY time should not be WASTED on non-issues. The Administration Police is a PROFESSIONAL SECURITY SERVICE and those who think it’s a down grade are WRONG. Parliament should instead focus on DEPLOYMENT to serious security SITUATIONS in areas where bandits are causing mayhem and destruction.” Wrote the DP.
The outspoken interior CS was set to appear before the committee tomorrow Wednesday September 1, 2021, to shed more light on the recent downgrade days after the DP’s security was restructured.
The committee chairman Peter Mwathi confirmed that the interior CS will be accompanied by the Interior ministry’s Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho and the Inspector General of police Hillary Mutyambai, with the trio having confirmed their attendance.
Mwathi further said that the committee members will be seeking to unearth the procedure and the law used by the three bosses to relegate the DP’s security detail from the elite General Service Unit (GSU) squad to Administration police (AP).
“We want them to shed light on whether the action they took is within the law, and if not, we will have no option but to ensure that the law is followed,” noted Mwathi.
The Mwathi-led committee will also seek to unravel the measures so far put in place by the National Police Service to ensure the second in command’s security and safety are not compromised despite the downgrade.
This comes days after the DP had protested the downgrading of his security, to an extent of writing a letter to the Inspector General of police Hillary Mutyambai, amid claims of his life being in danger.
While talking last Friday 27, August 2021, the DP complained to the security bosses that the recent reshuffle in his security detail, including the replacement of his personal driver could have been done with ill motive.
The Second in command was also reported to have spent his entire weekend indoors at his Nairobi Karen resident following the downgrade while fearing for his life.
He however changed tune and even welcomed his new security team, with the DP even seen in photos yesterday Monday August 30, enjoying a cup of tea with the new team at the Karen home.
While speaking at Holy Mass in St. Augustine Catholic Church in Nakuru County, on Sunday, August 29, Dr. Ruto stated that he has no problem being
