Hours after the Kieni Constituency riots, Deputy President William Ruto’s allies have launched scathing attacks on Royal Media Services Citizen Television over claims of malice and bias against Dr. Ruto.
This is after the allies took offence with a report aired by the station on Sunday September 5, 2021 covering the chaotic scenes in Nyeri County during the second in command’s tour of Nyeri.
In their coverage the station had captured it as the DP’s convoy stoned by the rowdy youth opposed to his agenda and visit of the Nyeri’s Kieni Constituency, a thing his allies did not take kindly.
Springing into immediate action, the allies took issue with the headline “Nyeri Mobs Stone Ruto” claiming that the video clips did not validate the claims as there was no such occurrence as was in the video.
“Citizen TV please show us the clip of the stoning incident, please,” Soy Member of Parliament and Ruto’s de facto spokesperson, Caleb Kositany, requested.
His Kapseret counterpart Oscar Sudi was not as he threatened to mobilize the DP’s supporters and followers in boycotting the SK Macharia owned station.
“I advise the Hustler Nation to desist from watching Citizen TV Kenya. They are taking us back to the dark days of KANU party and KADU where biased news was a norm,” Tweeted Sudi.
“As Hustlers, we can update ourselves using alternative sources like social media. Hata mlika mwizi iko na kazi yake! (Even the rudimentary phones have their work!)” he added.
DP Ruto’s political advisor and strategist professor Edward Kisiangani also accusing the Dennis Pritt road station of being biased to the DP.
“I congratulate Citizen TV Kenya for openly being anti-DP Ruto and fiercely being pro-Raila. Freedom of choice. No problem. Let us wait and see what happens when the people decide 11 months from now!” the political analyst stated.
The issues led to an online back and forth with a section of the netizens taking offence with the station for concentrating more on the DP’s woes during their coverage.
Others also tackled the DP’s brigade head on faulting them for making up baseless accusations against the S.K Macharia owned station, they challenged the DP allies to focus on other key issues instead of their verbal attacks on the station.
