Details of Uhuru, Raila grand campaign plan ahead of BBI referendum

Following a clean bill of health by the County Assemblies on the Building Bridges Initiative bill to head to the Parliament, President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga have laid a grand campaign plan to enable it to sail through.

In their quest to have the final nail on the coffin, the two leaders have zone marked Kenya into 10 regions from where they will begin attacking the referendum campaigns.

They are set to kick start the Nationwide campaigns on Monday ahead of the Parliament preparations to consider the constitutional changes after it was passed by more than 40 County Assemblies.

“We have a plan to roll out national campaigns from next week to cover all parts of the country. We’re going to have 10 teams, which will camp in every corner, every sub-location, and every village of this country starting March 1,” Mr. Junet said.

Talking yesterday at Ufungamano house in Nairobi where he met youths and varied leaders drawn mainly from upper Eastern Kenya, the former Premier vowed that his quest for a constitutional amendment was unstoppable.

He promised to make a tour of the Mt Kenya region and specifically the Embu, Tharaka Nithi, and Meru region, where his political opponents think he has no chance, to drum up support for the bill.

“Some people have been saying Raila cannot come to the mountain or that he is not wanted in Mt Kenya. Woe unto you. I’ll climb the mountain. I’ve done it before. I’ll do it again,” Mr. Odinga declared yesterday when he met youth leaders from the three counties at Ufungamano House, Nairobi.

The 10 regions are Coast, North Eastern, Upper Eastern (Meru, Embu, Tharaka-Nithi, Marsabit, and Isiolo), Lower Eastern (Machakos, Kitui, and Makueni), Central, Nairobi, North Rift, South Rift, Nyanza, and Western.

The regions are to be led by political leaders with plans to integrate, civil society leaders, clergy, trade unionists, and representatives of special interest groups.

The move is to dispel the rumors around BBI and also help in marketing the document.

Political big names in the Country including selected governors allied to the two principals and regional kingpins will be tasked with the campaigns.
